Robin Pilcher

Geoscience Team Lead & Senior Geological Advisor

Hess Corporation

Robin Pilcher received his B.S. degree in geology from Durham University (1992) and Ph.D. instructural geology from Birkbeck College, University of London (1997). Currently a senior geologic adviser with Hess Corporation, Robin spent 12 years focused on exploration in a variety of offshore basins including Gulf of Mexico, North Sea, Brazil and West Africa where he specialized in regional- to prospect scale structure and salt tectonics. As team lead of Hess's Bakken regional studies group, since 2009, he has focused on developing predictive regional understanding of STOOIP and key production drivers including reservoir facies, fluid system and structural controls.

NEXT EVENT IN THE SERIES

BCG13 Logo

In order to maximize production, it is vital for Bakken producers to….

… understand the Bakken resource as a collation of play types, including the Sanish, Elm Coulee, Nesson Anticline, Parshall, Three Forks and Saskatchewan.

To overlook the geological differentials between one field type and another is to ignore the fundamentals of successful well production. Bakken Tight Oil Congress 2012 will bring together expert speakers to analyze multiple play types within the Bakken to demonstrate the importance of tailored completions in enhancing well performance.

Bakken Tight Oil Congress 2012 is the only event designed specifically to enhance learning on integrating geological and completions disciplines to determine the most effective technical applications for each play type within the Bakken:

PLAY TYPES: Understanding the Bakken as a geologically heterogeneous resource play with multiple play types including Parshall, Sanish, Three Forks, Rough Rider, Scallion and Saskatchewan

INTEGRATING GEOLOGY WITH COMPLETIONS : Designing completions relative to field-specific reservoir characteristics to optimize production

SWEET SPOT IDENTIFICATION: Realizing common geological and reservoir characteristics of hot spots in the Bakken to identify highly productive new targets

PRODUCTION PERFORMANCE: Correlating production performance to completions variables and geological parameters to distinguish the effects of good geology from good completions

EXTENT OF THE BAKKEN: Analyzing the migration of oil and gas beyond the Bakken as it is currently defined to de-lineate new edges of the play and new opportunities
